German Language: three groups
Beginners, Intermediate and Conversation

Instead of attempting boring ‘Brain Exercises’ intended to fend off the passing years, come and give your brain some worthwhile exercise: learn a new language. German will give you all the exercise you need and more!  There is an added advantage: you will be able to treat yourself and put your new skill into practice with a holiday in  Germany, Austria or Switzerland, a visit to a Christmas market, or to a wine-growing  area, or shopping in Berlin. Even a few words such as ‘ein Bier bitte’ and ‘Danke’ will be rewarded with a friendly response, but you will know far  more words than those by next summer.
German for Beginners
(This is currently being run as a self-help group by Nigel Richards)

Our group launched in January 2020 with sessions every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon. The classes are held at the Dorchester Community Church in Poundbury. The sessions are split into two halves so that we can accommodate a range of members, from absolute beginners through to “very sound”. All participate in both halves. The beginners start from scratch and expand their knowledge quickly, while the more advanced enjoy re-visiting material and reinforcing their knowledge. It is all working well! Above all, the group is mutually supportive and newcomers quickly become regular group members.
Please contact Jane Huff (Group Coordinator) for more      details: [email protected]
German Intermediate

(This group is currently suspended whilst we search for a new Group Leader)
Our interactive classes are attended by up to twelve very friendly and highly motivated members with a broad spectrum of interests. Classes cover a wide variety of topics ranging from essential grammar to key aspects of German lifestyle and culture, from translation to the spoken word, from crosswords to quizzes. Not forgetting exposure to German music, TV news broadcasts and even poetry. Meetings are held on the first and third Friday of the month from 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Dorchester Community Church in Poundbury.
Please contact Jane Huff (Group Coordinator) for more details: [email protected]
German Conversation
The group meets fortnightly for general conversation and discussion of a chosen theme.  Meetings are held in member's homes.  Dates are shown in the Timetable.
We have had quizzes and games sessions as well as sharing skills such as making a typical Adventskranz.
Most members are fairly fluent, but not necessarily bilingual.
We are up to 14 members which is all we can reasonably manage for good meetings.
If interested please contact Irene Statham for further details.
