Welcome to Early Music - Playing
Early Music encompasses music from about the 1600's in four parts,(SATB) , by composers such as Byrd, Tallis, Gervaise, Dowland, Monteverdi, Gibbons, Widman, etc.
The group will run twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 4pm at the Durnovaria Band Hall, Fordington. Instruments would include all sizes of recorders, violins, flutes, cello, etc. Music access will be provided via a Google Drive download so you can print out your own copy with .mp3s. A playing list will be sent prior to each meeting. Participants will need the ability to sight-read music and to hold a part, so it is not suitable for beginners. You will probably also need a good sense of humour as we hope this will be a journey of learning for all participants rather than tuition. If you think you might be interested then please email: [email protected] |
We do know that we are not going to be the leading group of players of early music on authentic instruments, but that is not the point – we want to give ourselves the experience of the qualities which go with “Early Music"
