Covid Safe Meetings
Guidance for Group Leaders
England has returned to Plan A.
This means:
There is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering. The u3a and government suggests that you inform your group’s to continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where they may come into contact with other people they do not normally meet.
Venues and events are no longer required by law to check visitors’ NHS COVID Pass. The NHS COVID Pass can still be used on a voluntary basis.
It is still possible to catch and spread COVID-19, even if you are fully vaccinated.
Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms or a positive test result should stay at home and self-isolate immediately. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should arrange to take a PCR test as soon as possible, even if you’ve had one or more doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
COVID-19 will be a feature of our lives for the foreseeable future, so we need to learn to live with it and manage the risk to ourselves and others.
All of us can play our part by understanding the situations where risks of COVID-19 infection and transmission are likely to be higher, and taking action to reduce these risks.
Following this guidance will help you to understand situations where there is a greater risk of catching or spreading COVID-19 and the steps that you can take to stay safe and protect others. Every action you can take to help reduce the spread will help reduce pressure on the NHS during the winter months.
All our venues are fully open with all restrictions removed, back to original occupancy levels, but with an expectation that all groups will wipe tables, chairs and all equipment used with anti-viral products, before use and after use. Some venues may not be providing cleaning products so be prepared to provide them yourselves. You will be reimbursed by the Treasurer on receipt of an invoice.
It will be up to the Group Leaders to decide on occupancy numbers, if you think the venue is too small, we have larger venues but you may have to change times/dates to use them, please discuss with Mike Neely who looks after venue bookings. Keep your Webpage up-to-date.
The Government are emphasising that the Pandemic is not over and there are still large numbers of cases and there is still the need for caution and restraint and this is now the responsibility of all. As a u3a we still advise that you wear masks in crowded areas, be aware of social distancing if needed, ensure plenty of ventilation. Use antiviral gel and wash hands regularly.
As a u3a we recommend that all our members have been part of the Government vaccination programme as this is reducing the link between infections and severe disease and death.
Consider the current Government and Public Health advice and the feasibility of carrying out your activity safely, consider whether your activity involves the sharing of equipment or spaces and make sure you have antiviral products available.
Group Leaders are to maintain an attendance register with name and contact details of participants to share with NHS track and trace if required, and to pass on to the treasurer as normal.
Consider general hazards related to your activity, and the impact of accommodating Covid 19 requirements may have.
All participants are to review their own personal health and circumstances referring to current Government guidance.
It is the u3a Committee’s intention to make the meetings as safe to our members as possible but we are also relying on all of you to take responsibility. The Committee are here to help you so please ask if you have any queries. Email to the Secretary, Les Mould in the first instance.
