French Conversation Group

The French Conversation group has been meeting now for many years and is led by Jane Yeomans.

Currently we meet in one another’s homes to talk in French about many diverse topics. Sometimes one person will take the lead having prepared material on a previously agreed subject; sometimes we will read, translate and discuss articles from magazines or books; other times again we will talk about visits and holidays in France and elsewhere; and occasionally we will have a visit from a native French speaker to give us a flavour of the real thing, and perhaps improve our fluency.

A French Conversation 2 group has also been formed. Several of its members are fluent French speakers. This group also meets in members' homes to talk on discussion topics often agreed in advance.

At present both these groups are full; but if there were sufficient additional interest yet another group could be formed. To put your name on a waiting list please contact the group leaders by e-mail using the address below, stating your standard of spoken French, and mentioning the words 'French Conversation' in the title of your e-mail.

Victor Hugo (1802--1885) was a dramatist and novelist as well as being regarded as the greatest French poet of the 19th century.

He was much involved in politics as a republican, for which reason he spent twenty years in exile in the Channel Islands, where he wrote his famous novel 'Les Miserables'.

“Le rire, c'est le soleil, il chasse l'hiver du visage humain.”
