Modern Bridge, more precisely Contract Bridge, but the 'Contract' has for long been dropped, was developed out of Auction Bridge and introduced to card players in the early 1920s. It took firm root quickly, and made rapid progress, to become the most popular game in the history of card playing. Today it is played by millions, rich and poor, from peers to peasants, and it has attracted to itself a vast literature in most European languages.
The U3A Bridge Group runs at Sandringham Court, every Wednesday at 10.45 am. The objective of the Group is to teach and develop players understanding of Bridge such that in the future, every player will be able to play Bridge, some socially at each others homes; and what a wonderful game to follow a wonderful dinner! Or perhaps to reach a level that will enable some players to develop further, so they can enter the world of Bridge Clubs.
The Group aims use Bridge to build up social relationships; it makes players think, sometimes with hilarious results! It will help keep players minds active. However and most of all; Bridge is fun!
